Medstead Bowls Club
Medstead Bowls Club
About the Club or class
The club was founded in 1992 and opened for play in 1997. The green and clubhouse were built on land generously made available on lease by a local farmer and with the aid of substantial grants from the National Lottery through Sports England and The Foundation for Sports and The Arts.Members and well-wishers raised the rest of the funds locally. The initial funds were only sufficient to provide the playing surface and the shell of the clubhouse. All of the fitting out and subsequent improvements have been carried out by members using funds that they raised themselves.
We are able to cater for up to 60 people for social occasions in our own electrically
heated clubroom using the well-equipped kitchen. The dimensions of the clubroom
also allow us to set up two short mat rinks indoors which can be used in inclement weather.
Our green is of the maximum regulation size in both directions and is unusual in
having an all-weather playing surface. In 2016 the surface of the green was
professionally renewed, using a carpet with underlay that more closely simulates the
performance of a good grass green, and this has proved very successful. Play is
possible all year – winter and summer.
Membership fees are kept as low as possible. For the current season (2023-24) they
